Description

On the site of what was once the Millbank Penitentiary stands the Tate, the elder and more venerable of the two Tate siblings, which was opened in 1892. This London art museum celebrates British art from 1500 to the present, showcasing works from renowned artists such as William Blake, William Hogarth, Thomas Gainsborough, John Constable, Lucian Freud, Barbara Hepworth, Gillian Ayres, Francis Bacon, and Henry Moore—not to mention the star of the show, the awe-inspiring JMW Turner in the Clore Gallery.
