Description
The Tamsin Trail is the shared path that loops around Richmond Park, the largest of London's Royal Parks, in the southwest of the city: an 11.6-kilometer circuit for walkers, runners and cyclists, almost entirely free of cars.
The trail keeps close to the park's walls, linking gates such as Richmond, Roehampton, Robin Hood, Kingston and Ham. Along the way you cross open grassland where some 630 red and fallow deer roam freely, and near Robin Hood Gate the path follows Beverley Brook.
The best detour is King Henry's Mound, in the gardens of Pembroke Lodge. A protected view, with a telescope on the mound, reaches all the way to St Paul's Cathedral, more than 16 kilometers away. Legend says Henry VIII waited here for a signal that Anne Boleyn had been executed, but there is no evidence for it.
Bikes can be rented near Roehampton Gate. The trail is a favorite with local runners, and one running club laps the whole park twice a month.
