Description

For centuries, the City of London has been showcasing its noteworthy art collection, beginning in 1885. Unfortunately, the original gallery was destroyed during the Blitz of World War II. When the area was reconstructed in 1985, the ruins of a Roman amphitheatre (c. 70 CE) were discovered and the gallery was redesigned to include this remarkable find. The collection now comprises over 4500 pieces, from which it is particularly well-known for its depictions of London, Victorian art, and Pre-Raphaelite works from John Everett Millais and Dante Gabriel Rossetti.
