Description

The magnificent 1930s art-deco mansion was constructed by Stephen Courtauld and his wife Virginia (Ginie). The Courtaulds made their riches in the rayon (artificial silk) industry, and had this luxurious stately home built as a retreat to entertain guests. It boasts state-of-the-art features for its time, including telephones, synchronized electric clocks, a built-in vacuum system, and a boiler powerful enough to provide 12 baths of hot water simultaneously. The mansion is connected to the remnants of a historic royal estate.
