Description

The historic 16th century Georgian house located in the City is one of the few surviving, and was the home of the renowned Samuel Johnson, the author of the very first English dictionary. He was notably known for his statement “when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life”. The interior of the house is preserved and contains antique furniture and items from Johnson’s life, such as the first edition of his dictionary from 1755 and the 18th-century front door with a spiked iron bar to protect against children thieves.
