Description

The Crystal Palace Park—so named for the remarkable glass-and-iron palace built for the Great Exhibition in 1851 and relocated to this site from Hyde Park in 1854—is a vast expanse of green that invites exploration. Designed by Joseph Paxton, the palace was consumed by an unquenchable fire in 1936, with reports noting that the flames could be seen across 10 counties. According to The Times, the palace was reduced to a smoking ruin in mere hours, with its goldfish sadly succumbing to their boiling fate.
