Description

The grandeur of the French Gothic-style Victorian structure on the southern border of Kensington Gardens stands in contrast to the modesty of its subject, Prince Albert of Germany. Against his wishes, the Lord Mayor commanded George Gilbert Scott to design and construct a 53m monument in his honor. The 4.25m gold statue surrounded by 187 figures representing the arts, industry, science, and four continents was erected in 1876.
