Description
Commissioned by King Edward VII in memory of Queen Victoria
A Latin inscription along the top of Admiralty Arch reads "In the tenth year of King Edward VII, to Queen Victoria, from most grateful citizens, 1910." A beautiful homage to one of England's most famous royal figures.
The Admiralty Arch, designed by Sir Aston Webb and constructed by John Mowlem & Co, is now an office building, stretching between The Mall and Trafalgar Square. This is a grade 1 (building of outstanding architectural or historic interest) listed building and it is also home to the Prime Minister's Strategy Unit and the Social Exclusion Task Force.
