Description
On a Shakespeare's Globe guided tour, a live guide leads you into the round wooden playhouse in Southwark and explains how it came to stand there. The first theatre, from 1599, outlasted plague, a fire and political oppression, then returned in the 1990s thanks to one man's radical vision. Over about an hour you cover more than 400 years of history, hearing the stories behind the stage of Shakespeare's London.
What you walk around is an authentic reconstruction of an Elizabethan playhouse, so it is a fine spot for pictures of the sixteenth-century design. Your ticket also covers the exhibition, where you can try on costumes from productions staged at the Globe.
